Chelsee and I selected 50 albums that we think that are the best albums so far.
We both selected 5 albums as favorite with a explanation why it’s our favorite.
Here’s part 1 of the best albums so far.
At The Gates – To Drink From The Night Itself
Death Alley – Superbia
Corrosion Of Conformity – No Cross No Crown
Maidavale – Madness Is Too Pure
Yob – Our Raw Heart
While I wasn’t surprised that YOB put out an album and I really liked it. It starts off beautifully, then transcends into churning riffs. Many are aware that mike faced a life threatening medical complications during the recording of the album. Our Raw Heart has the beauty and vulnerability, light and the depths of struggle. Though clocking in at over 16 minutes, “Beauty in Falling Leaves” is one of those tracks that will likely change your life. After facing death, Yob has given us life, and it continues to be doom at its finest.
Rolo Tomassi – Time Will Die And Love Will Bury it
Of Feather And Bone – Bestial Hymns Of Perversion
Jack White – Boarding House Reach
Khemmis – Desolation
Wiegedood – De Doden Hebben Het Goed III
I wasn’t a big lover of the black metal genre because I never quite understood it.
A band that changed that was Wiegedood, since their first release in 2015.
This year they already released their third masterpiece.
The music of Wiegedood is very intense. The people who saw the band live know what I am talking about.
Glorior Belli – The Apostates
Coilguns – Millennials
Turbowolf – The Free Life
Uada – Cult Of A Dying Sun
Wrong – Feel Great
Tomb Mold – Manor Of Infinite Forms
Verheerer – Maltrér
Phil Anselmo & The Illegals – Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue
Hamferð – Támsins likam
Somali Yacht Club – The Sea
This is one of the albums of the year that immediately struck me. It has the perfect balance of good songwriting and comforting vocals. I’ve been coming back to it month after month this year to return to the dreamlike feeling that it provides, with touches of psychedelia. The album maintains the mood throughout, often starting at one point only to bring you up through the songs to the pivotal moment of full blown awe by their conclusion in tracks such as “Blood Leaves a Trail” and “84 Days”
Ghost – Prequelle
Phantom Winter –Into Dark Science
Inspired by the dark worlds created by various writers, Into Dark Science is an exploration of the self. The dynamics in “The Initiation of Darkness” is like getting lost in a nightmare and wonder of occult. The world it creates for you is haunting, and the balance between the two vocalists is like a battle between inner demons bringing balance the darkness. Instead of pushing you into continuously into the abyss, the tracks finds harmony in moments of intensity and letting you digest it all, before going back for more.
Thou – The House Primordial
MØL – Jord
At the beginning of this year I had never heard of MØL.
That changed after I discovered their album Jord.
Jord is an album that I listen to weekly, the brutal parts combined with those beautiful post rock moments are a match made in heaven!
Just another awesome band from the Holy Roar family!
Zeal And Ardor – Strange Fruits
Part 2 is coming up soon!
